VetView · FAQ

Questions we get

What it connects to, what your PACS has to do, what happens to your images, and what the AI will and will not do.

Getting it running

Do we have to replace our PACS?
No. VetView sits alongside the system you already have. Your PACS keeps doing what it does, and VetView receives a copy of each study, keeps it off site, and gives you a browser viewer and AI reporting on top. Nothing about how your team works today has to change for it to start.
What do we actually have to do to connect it?
Add VetView as a destination in your PACS so it forwards new studies. We do that with you during onboarding, and it is the only change made to your system. The piece that receives the studies runs on the same machine as your PACS and listens locally, so there are no inbound firewall ports to open and nothing of yours is exposed to the internet.
Which PACS does it work with?
Any PACS that speaks DICOM, which in practice means all of them. We have clinics running IDEXX, Sound, OR Technology and Vieworks today. If your system can send a study to another destination, it can send to VetView.
What if our PACS is old, or the vendor has disappeared?
Tell us what it is. We have connected practices whose vendor no longer supports the product, including reading studies straight out of a local archive when the PACS itself can no longer send them anywhere. Recovering everything historical is not always possible, and we will tell you what we can and cannot reach before you commit to anything.

Which practice management system you run

Do you integrate with our PIMS?
Tell us what you run and we will answer it against your actual setup. Building an integration takes our team about a day once we have access. Getting that access from the vendor is the part that takes time, and it is the real bottleneck rather than the engineering.
What if you do not have access to our PIMS yet?
This is where you come in. The more practices that ask their PIMS vendor to work with us, the faster those vendors prioritize it. Once they let us in, the integration is usually built quickly and then waits on their approval rather than on us.
Does VetView work without a PIMS integration?
Yes. The imaging side stands on its own: studies arrive from your PACS, the AI reports on them, and you can view and share them regardless of what you use for records. A PIMS integration adds matching studies to the right patient record, it is not what makes the product work.

Your images and your data

Is our original data ever changed?
No. VetView receives and reads, and never writes back. It does not modify a study, delete one, or alter anything in your PACS. Your system stays the source of truth and we hold an encrypted copy.
How is it protected?
Studies are encrypted in transit and encrypted at rest. Access is role based, so an account only reaches the studies belonging to the practice it belongs to, and multi-factor authentication is available on any account.
Do you use our images to train your AI?
Yes. Images, the study and patient data that arrives with them, the reports we generate and any corrections your team makes to those reports are all used to improve our models. There is no separate opt-in and no opt-out. If that does not work for your practice, VetView is not the right fit.

The AI, and the radiologists behind it

Is the AI making a diagnosis?
No. It is a second opinion and decision support, not a diagnosis and not a substitute for a radiologist read. The clinical decision stays with you.
What does it report on?
Radiographs, including an automated Vertebral Heart Score. It is in beta, labeled as such in the product, and it will keep changing while it is.
Is a person involved at all?
Yes. While the AI reporting is in beta, every report it produces is checked by a board-certified radiologist before you see it.
How do we get a full radiologist read?
One click from the study you are already looking at. A board-certified veterinary radiologist returns a full consult with findings and recommendations. It is requested per study, only when you want one, and there is nothing to turn on in advance.

Day to day

Where do we look at studies?
In any browser. VetView is a cloud PACS with a viewer built in, so a study is reachable from the exam room, the office or home without installing a workstation client.
Can we share a study with a client or another clinic?
Yes, at full resolution, in one click. It goes out as a link by email, so there are no discs to burn and nothing for the other end to sign into.
Who on our team can have an account?
Everyone who needs one. It runs in a browser, so there is nothing to install and no workstation that becomes the only place the images live.
